Saxony State Office for Archaeology - Excavation Specialist
Position Overview:
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Excavation Specialist to join the Saxony State Office for Archaeology in Saxony, Germany. As an Excavation Specialist, you will play a crucial role in the preservation and exploration of our rich cultural heritage. Your work will involve managing excavation projects, conducting research, and collaborating with a team of professionals.
Responsibilities:
- Plan, coordinate, and execute excavation projects in compliance with established guidelines and regulations
- Supervise archaeological fieldwork including excavation, stratigraphic recording, and artifact analysis
- Utilize advanced archaeological techniques and technologies to ensure accurate data collection and interpretation
- Coordinate and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including architects, historians, and preservation specialists
- Conduct thorough research and analysis of archaeological findings to contribute to the understanding of Saxony's cultural heritage
- Prepare comprehensive excavation reports, presentations, and publications
- Manage archaeological collections and ensure proper documentation and storage
- Contribute to public outreach initiatives and educational programs to promote awareness and appreciation of archaeology
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Archaeology or a related field
- Proven experience in archaeological excavation, including fieldwork and data analysis
- Strong knowledge of archaeological methodologies, theories, and best practices
- Proficient in using archaeological equipment, tools, and software applications
- Excellent organizational and project management skills
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team and independently
- Strong attention to detail and analytical thinking
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and German
- Valid driver's license
