Position Overview:

Austurland Community Tourism Office is seeking a motivated and dynamic individual to join our team as an Environmental Outreach Coordinator. In this role, you will be responsible for promoting environmental awareness and sustainable practices in the Eastern Region of Iceland. Although the job falls within the Environment/Geology industry, we seek a candidate who can inspire communities and tourists alike to appreciate and protect the unique natural environment.

Job Responsibilities:

Design and implement environmental education programs and initiatives to raise awareness and understanding of environmental issues in the region.
Collaborate with local stakeholders, tourism companies, and organizations to integrate sustainable practices into their operations.
Organize and lead community events, workshops, and campaigns to promote environmentally friendly behaviors and practices.
Develop partnerships and maintain relationships with relevant geology and nature preservation organizations.
Conduct research on the region's environmental challenges and contribute to the development of sustainable solutions.

Qualifications:

Background in Environmental Science, Geology, Ecology, or related field.
Passionate and knowledgeable about environmental conservation and the unique geology of Iceland.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills to engage with various stakeholders and effectively communicate environmental messages.
Experience in organizing events and educational programs.
Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
Proficiency in English; knowledge of Icelandic or another Nordic language is a plus.
