Scottish National Gallery is seeking a Senior Art Conservation Specialist to join our esteemed team. As a key member of our institution, you will play a crucial role in preserving and maintaining our exquisite collection of art. We are looking for an individual with a deep passion for art history and an extensive background in scientific analysis and preservation techniques.
Key Responsibilities:
- Leading and managing conservation projects to ensure the long-term preservation of our diverse collection
- Conducting in-depth historical and scientific research to inform conservation decisions
- Collaborating with curators, researchers, and external partners on conservation and technical analysis
- Developing and implementing innovative conservation strategies to safeguard artwork for future generations
- Utilizing advanced imaging and analytical techniques to study materials and techniques used in artworks
- Contributing to the development of exhibition strategies to highlight conservation efforts and the significance of the collection
Requirements:
- Advanced degree in Art History, Conservation Science, or a related field
- Demonstrated experience in managing complex conservation projects
- Expertise in scientific analysis, including the use of various laboratory techniques and equipment
- Proven ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a keen attention to detail
- A strong commitment to the preservation and understanding of artistic heritage
- Experience working in renowned galleries, museums, or cultural heritage institutions is preferred
