Position Available: Heritage Animal Keeper
Louisiana State Museum is seeking a dedicated and passionate individual to join our team as a Heritage Animal Keeper. Embrace a dynamic role that contributes to preserving Louisiana's rich heritage and cultural legacy, ensuring the welfare and presentation of our living exhibits.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide exceptional care and husbandry for the inhabitants of our diverse living collections, ensuring their health, safety, and well-being.
- Engage in the development and implementation of enriching, species-specific programs and activities to enhance the visitor experience.
- Collaborate with the curatorial team to support the integration of living exhibits within the broader museum context.
- Contribute to the training and education of fellow staff members, volunteers, and interns in animal care and handling best practices.
- Maintain accurate records of animal health, behavior, and environmental conditions, adhering to industry standards and protocols.
Qualifications:
- Proven experience in the care and management of living collections within cultural institutions, zoos, or similar settings.
- Knowledge of species-specific husbandry requirements and enrichment strategies, with a focus on the welfare and conservation of heritage animals.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively across departments and communicate with diverse audiences, including visitors, staff, and stakeholders.
- A commitment to upholding industry best practices, safety protocols, and regulatory compliance.
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
