Job Description: KenGen is seeking a dedicated individual to join our team as a Sustainable Development Specialist. In this role, you will be responsible for exploring innovative ways to integrate conservation efforts with community tourism initiatives in the Central region of Kenya. You will work closely with local stakeholders, leveraging your expertise to create unique experiences that showcase the region's natural beauty while promoting environmental preservation and cultural awareness.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement sustainable tourism strategies that align with KenGen's environmental sustainability goals
- Collaborate with local communities and tourism partners to create responsible tourism programs
- Evaluate the impact of tourism activities on the environment and recommend conservation measures
- Promote community engagement and empowerment through tourism-related initiatives
- Conduct research on best practices in sustainable tourism and contribute to ongoing projects
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Tourism Management, or a related field
- Proven experience in sustainable development projects, preferably in the tourism sector
- Strong understanding of environmental conservation principles and community engagement
- Excellent communication and project management skills
- Passion for promoting sustainable practices and cultural heritage preservation
