The North Carolina Petroleum Association is seeking a knowledgeable and detail-oriented Excise Tax Compliance Consultant to join our team. As an Excise Tax Compliance Consultant, you will play a vital role in ensuring the accurate collection and reporting of excise taxes for our members in the energy industry.
Job Responsibilities:
- Research and interpret state and federal excise tax laws and regulations applicable to the petroleum industry.
- Assist member companies in understanding and complying with excise tax requirements.
- Conduct comprehensive audits at member facilities to ensure compliance with excise tax laws.
- Analyze financial records, invoices, and other relevant documents to facilitate accurate tax reporting.
- Develop and implement strategies to minimize excise tax liabilities while adhering to legal requirements.
- Stay up-to-date with changes in excise tax legislation and communicate potential impacts to association members.
- Act as a liaison between the association and government regulatory agencies regarding excise tax matters.
- Provide guidance and support to member companies during excise tax audits and disputes.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience in taxation, preferably excise taxes or related areas.
- Strong knowledge of state and federal excise tax laws and regulations.
- Ability to analyze complex financial and tax-related data accurately.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency with accounting software and MS Office Suite.
- Professional certification in taxation (e.g., CPA) is desirable but not required.
